For the first time in nearly 15 years, the public will be allowed on the grounds of the historic Hayden Flour Mill in downtown Tempe. Fences blocking the big white mill and silos will be taken down on Tuesday, allowing the public to explore the grounds for the first time since 1998. The mill was among the first businesses to open in Tempe. Work on restoring the mill began a year ago and now it will serve as an event venue for movies, concerns, picnics, weddings and other occasions. Improvements include a stage and a grassy lawn, a grove of trees for shady picnics and a museum. A grand opening is scheduled for September 20.
